Plant-Based Dyeing Workshop
The workshop will take place with a minimum of 6 participants.
Location: Park Schothorst
Time: 9:30 AM – approximately 4:00 PM
The workshop includes all materials. You’ll receive 15 small skeins of yarn so we can dye the full rainbow of colors.
Coffee and tea are included. Further information about lunch will follow.
Morning session:
Madder root for red/orange tones
Weld for yellow tones
We'll also prepare a dye bath using freshly gathered plants — depending on what's in bloom at the time.
Afternoon session:
Indigo for blue and green shades
We'll dye the yarn in the “soup” of foraged plants
If there's time left, we'll dye pink using cochineal (a scale insect)
Practical information:
We work with plant-based dyes that may cause permanent stains on clothing. Please wear clothes that can get dirty.
Avoid synthetic fabrics due to the use of open fire.
Closed-toe shoes are recommended — water from the dye pots can be hot.
I will bring some rubber gloves, which you may use. You’re also welcome to bring your own.
Please note that we work with hot pans over open fire. Participation is at your own risk.
The workshop is open to everyone aged 16 and up. Children aged 14 or 15 are welcome with a paying parent or guardian.
