Bluewood (Campeche) 100 gram
Logwood (Blauwhout)
With logwood (Haematoxylum campechianum), you can dye beautiful purple and blue colors. This powerful natural dye comes from the tropical tree known as logwood, which is native to Central America, particularly around the Gulf of Mexico. The tree’s dark wood has been used for centuries as a natural dye, especially to achieve rich blue and purple tones.
How to Use Logwood:
Pre-mordanting for best results: Pre-mordant the wool with alum to help the color adhere better and achieve the most vibrant result.
Preparation Soak the dried materials 24 hours in advance before adding them to the dye bath. This ensures the dye can be fully extracted from the wood.
Color intensity: Logwood is more intense than many other natural dyes, meaning you need less material. 25 grams of logwood per 100 grams of wool will already give you a deep, rich color.
Fading under UV light: Logwood is sensitive to sunlight and may fade over time when exposed to UV rays.
Tips:
The intensity of the color can vary depending on the pH and hardness of the water in the dye bath.
Keep in mind that, as with all natural dyes, final color results can vary depending on the type of wool, the mordant used, and other factors such as water quality and temperature.
